Many Happy Returns Of The Day

Today is my parents’ anniversary. They’ve been married for 52 years, and they still really enjoy each other’s company. This is a video that I meant to share on my blog shortly after they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to make it live. Better late than never, right? Please join me today in wishing my parents continued joy, love and acceptance. Whatever they’re doing, it’s working.

    • Hi Patricia. I’m limping back to life. I haven’t been the best company lately, but I think I’m starting to come out of it. I’ve been very undisciplined when it comes to my writing. Time to sit down and bang out another entry – eventually. I hope you’re well.

  6. All of my four grandparents were married over 50-years as well, my maternal grandparents I believe made it past 60! I also know MANY other grandparents/great-grandparents that have made it past 50. I know many (several?) couples my parent’s age that have made it past 30 & 40! In all cases, and those I’ve had the honor of getting to know well, compromise and “not sweating the little trivial things” were the TWO primary components of long, LONG lasting unions. How they have both done that with their spouse is often a most comical story I always love listening to! 😛

But my generation — and perhaps my children’s generation too — are in and have gone through an almost ‘foreign’ or alien, totally different Era than our previous 2-4 generations went through. For example, the Great Depression, World War II, post WW2 economic booms, all of which were MASSIVE challenges to individual & familial well-being! We have not gone through such life-threatening(?) events; I know I have not. So it greatly behooved those previous 2-4 generations to STICK IT OUT NO MATTER WHAT! Duh? “Strength in numbers,” as a team, holds so very true through such hard hard times! It puts things, life into hardcore perspective, doesn’t it!? 😮

I’m not sure it is that way with today’s generations, at least in luxurious America. I greatly envy couples who stick it out, not sweating the little things. Many many bravos to them Renee! They should be very proud of themselves and never let each other’s hands go. ❤

    • Two sets of grandparents married over 50 years? That’s really incredible these days. I admire couples who make it these days, and I’m more than a little sad that I couldn’t be one of them. As for my parents, they are still very in love and they don’t any signs of getting tired of each other. I’ll pass along your well-wishes.

  7. Oh my gosh, you are an amazing daughter! Not that I’m even remotely surprised, since you’re an amazing human. 🙂 It was so nice to actually hear your voice. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard you before! And your parents are adorable. The whole video was breathtaking and I am feeling so many emotions right now.

Huge, huge hugs to you. ❤ xo

Mazal tov to Phil and Joan on their 50th wedding anniversary! We hope that their “hands were itching” today, as they were talked about at lunch here in So.California…I, Judie Cynkus Rice, was with Bobbi Hurwitz Harwood and Rosanne Saslow Stein for our just-about-yearly meeting, replete with photos of our daze in AZA/BBG and Iota Phi etc… Names were passed around, and I told my friends how delighted I was when Phil came up to me after services at Temple Adath two weeks ago, to say hi, and did I remember him. Tears came to my eyes…he is still kind and sweet today as when we were kids at Nottingham and The Center,etc.. What a wonderful video of life that you’ve put together for your family for ages to come…how special it all is. Again, congratulations…to the entire family. Judie C.Rice
